Our planet is around our sun located here in a spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy, there are numerous other galaxies that we can observe from earth but this view could only be seen from far away in another galaxy, looking back at us.
Our Milky Way galaxy as seen from earth looking into the "edge' of the galaxy, usually best in fall and winter, we can use my telescopes to peer into the center of the galaxy and observe clusters of stars that float 20,000 light years above our plane of the galaxy. The Milky Way is 50,000 light years from the center to the edge, making it 100,000 light years wide. We live about 30,000 lt yrs from the center in one of the spiral arms. Most objects we see in the night sky exist in our galaxy.
